The summer holidays pass in the blink of an eye, and suddenly, it's time to gear up for a brand-new academic year. Whether your child is stepping into school for the first time or returning to a familiar classroom, the first day of school is both exciting and important.

The Notebook School in Upparpally, Hyderabad believes that confidence and success are rooted in preparation. This guide has simple and effective steps designed to support students and parents' transition to school life.

 Back-to-School Tips for Students

1.  Get Your School Supplies Ready

Ensure that your bag is packed with everything you need: notebooks, pens, ID card, bottle, lunchbox etc. Also, ensure that your items have your name on them! We do not want items getting lost.

2. Reset Your Brain with a Quick Review

Take 30 minutes a day over the summer months to review last year’s subjects. Reviewing adds confidence and puts your memory in a position to go right into learning without stopping.

Tip: Focus on challenging subjects, perhaps Math or English grammar?

3.  Rebuild a Healthy Sleep Routine

Be sure to establish a routine of sleeping early and waking up early at least one week before returning to school. Remember, a rested brain will be able to focus in class!

4.  Set Goals for the Year

Consider what you hope to achieve this year eg. to improve my academic results, join a new club, read more library books. Be sure to write down your goals and track them in a month.

5.  Reconnect with Friends

You should reach out to classmates before the school begins, it could be through a short text message or a video call. This can help students feel relaxed and excited before returning to school

 Back-to-School Tips for Parents

1.  Re-establish Home Routines

Set fixed times for waking up, meals, screen time, homework and sleeping. When children have a predictable routine, they tend to feel calm and focused.

2.  Shop Early for School Essentials

Do your shopping as early as you can so you avoid the last-minute rush. Before the term starts, go shopping for uniforms, shoes, stationery, and books. Most schools such as ours provide you with a list of what is needed so you can follow the list by ticking it off as you go.

3. Create a Dedicated Study Space

Set up a quiet, well-lit corner somewhere in the house to do homework and any school-related study, away from distractions like the TV or mobile phones.

Tip: Allow your children some input into the space so they feel some ownership/responsibility.

4.  Stay in Touch with Teachers

Make a point of meeting your child's class teacher in the first week of term. This will help you understand the teacher's expectations and your responsibilities as a parent as the year progresses.

5. Celebrate the First Day

Once your child has returned home, carry on the theme of the first day by taking a photo, writing a lunchbox note, or preparing a special dinner. These little moments will help embed positive memories around learning.
